The delightful old fortified town of Wadwhan is one of the highlights of Gujarat. Every wall and door glows with distressed painted colours.

We were searching for ancient stepwells in the nearby countryside but the town itself is a delight. Narrow lanes, dusty streets, colourful buildings, friendly people, the hammering of metal water pots being made in backstreet workshops alongside women making the bandani textiles for which it's famous.
