Our beautiful Appliquéd Bedspreads from Barmer are made by a process of reverse appliqué, a technique where one of two layers of fabric is cut away to produce a pattern, and embroidery added to the exposed under-layer.
Kantha is a type of embroidery stitching typical of rural Bengal. Village women repurpose old saris to make quilts, shawls and cushions to create a new item - what we would today call upcycling.
